“Know Your Neighbour”
Building connected Greater New Brighton Community
Central New Brighton, North New Brighton, Southshore. South New Brighton, Waimari Beach.
The ”Know Your Neighbour” campaign is all about helping Greater New Brighton residents get to know each other and prepare for emergencies together. One of the campaign’s key objectives is to foster stronger community bonds. By getting to know their neighbours, residents can build a supportive network that can be invaluable in times of crisis.
The campaign encourages residents to attend “Cuppa on the Corner” street events, engage in discussions, and share their experiences with others. This spirit of street connection and mutual support is essential.
Over 12 months, “Cuppa on the Corner” events will take place street by street across the Greater New Brighton area, providing valuable information and hands-on experience. Workshops and demonstrations will cover tsunami evacuation plans, creating emergency kits, and understanding local emergency protocols. Additionally, Q&A sessions with experts will allow residents to ask specific questions and get tailored advice for their unique situations.
Community involvement is crucial for the success of the "Know Your Neighbour" campaign. Residents are encouraged to attend events, spread the word, and stay connected through social media for updates and tips. By working together, the Greater New Brighton community can build a safer, more resilient environment for everyone.
This is a collaborative project between Renew Brighton charitable Trust, Neighbourhood Support Christchurch area, Residents’ Associations, and the CCC Civil Defence team.
